Central bursting in cold worked steels are a very rare occurrence. Central bursts or chevrons are the result of the steel failing by shear as it’s strength is exceeded during the cold working process.
Scabs are irregularly shaped, flattened protrusions caused by splash, boiling or other problems from teeming, casting, or conditioning. They are commonly mistaken for Slivers shearing and rolled in scale.
