PPE is always in style.
The proper PPE is not magic. It is the right equipment for the identified hazards, at the occupational circumstance. The guy in the crane high above doesn’t need his visibility improved to protect him from vehicular traffic. The roofer doesn’t need a neon green t-shirt, he needs fall protection.
PPE and Machine Guards are there for a reason folks.
Proposed OSHA reinterpretation could jeopardize your shop if they DICTATE that it is feasible to install Sound guarding or reducing your capacity with administrative controls whether or not it achieves their goal of lowering below 85dB or makes any business sense.
Let’s make safety first a habit that keeps our shops and people both safe and productive. Making safety first is ‘What you can do to make your company the most money.’
3 Things You Can Do Today:
1) Hold your people accountable to work safely. 2) Train your people to understand the hazards. 3) Confirm that your procedures are up-to-date and being followed.
